For the Record, You’re a Classic!

Music & Movement

At Sonnets, we recognize the power of music as an essential aspect of early childhood education. While our Music Enrichment Program allows us to learn and explore through music year round, last month our curricular theme “For the Record, You’re a Classic” allowed us to expand on this important and fun learning medium. Lesson plans focused on developing an appreciation for different genres, rhythms, and melodies. From singing and dancing to playing musical instruments, we encouraged children to express themselves creatively and connect with the world of music.

What is music without movement? Music & movement, together, allow children to develop not only their physical coordination, balance, and spatial awareness, but it also provides a medium through which they can express emotions and creativity and even learn math fundamentals through rhythm.

Parachute Fun!

Playing parachute is a delightful and energetic activity that never fails to bring smiles to children's faces. We worked together to make the parachute rise and fall in mesmerizing patterns as we moved our bodies to the rhythm of music. The sheer joy of teamwork and the exhilarating rush of the parachute's billowing motion makes this activity an instant hit!

Little Drummer

Last month we ignited sensory awareness in our little ones by introducing rhythmic patterns & melodies. Through gentle movements and interactive songs, infants begin to grasp basic concepts of:

  • beat and tempo

  • enhancing physical coordination

  • emotional and social connections

Season’s Greetings!

Celebrating what makes us unique as well as what connects us is at the foundation of everything we do at Sonnets. This holiday season we invited our families to join us in sharing and learning about different cultural traditions and holiday celebrations. We enjoyed reading traditional stories, cookie decorating, and singing songs to share & connect with our classmates.

THE SONNeTS LEARNING PHILOSoPHY

Sonnets embraces a balanced approach to early childhood education: nurturing your child’s social-emotional skills, their excitement about play & discovery, and their confidence & readiness for future learning. Sonnets has developed a comprehensive roadmap of developmentally-appropriate curricular objectives from early infancy through pre-kindergarten. Teachers incorporate objectives into lesson plans and continuously assess each child’s proficiency in each skill to aid in personalization.

Active and experiential learning comes alive through whole group, small group, individual, and pairs-based instruction. Open-ended stations and free play place the focus on the process of engaging in the activity rather than on a desired outcome — encouraging creativity, curiosity, and overall cognitive engagement. Hands-on projects reinforce a collaborative approach to a community-based learning environment.
